ASA Medical Group Launches – Bosnia’s First Fully Integrated Private Healthcare Network

ASA Group has officially launched ASA Medical Group, marking a significant milestone in the development of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s private healthcare sector.

The new network unites three key entities:

  • ASA Bolnica – a 180-bed general hospital in Sarajevo opened in 2024
  • Eurofarm Polyclinics – a nationwide network of outpatient clinics and laboratories
  • ASA Institute – the group’s dedicated research and development centre

Together, these form Bosnia’s largest and most advanced private healthcare network, providing a seamless patient journey from prevention and diagnostics to treatment and recovery.

“By integrating primary, specialist, and hospital care, ASA Medical Group enables a continuum of treatment and more efficient patient management,” said Dr. Mohamad Hamade, Executive Chairman and Group CEO of ASA Medical Group, and founder of Lumio Capital.

The initiative is managed by Lumio Capital, a Dubai-based investment firm focused on healthcare and education, and represents a strategic collaboration between global management expertise and ASA Group’s deep local roots.

A New Model for Private Healthcare

While private healthcare in Bosnia is still in its early stages—with insurance penetration below 1%—ASA Medical Group sees this as a unique opportunity to shape a new model of care that complements the public sector and raises national healthcare standards.

The immediate focus is on strengthening the current network of nine clinics and laboratories while preparing for regional expansion and the introduction of advanced diagnostics and digital health solutions. Long-term plans also include strategic partnerships with international hospitals, universities, and healthcare technology firms.

“We aim to position ASA Medical Group as the leading healthcare network in the Balkans,” added Dr. Hamade.

Context and Outlook

Between 2015 and 2023, Bosnia’s total health expenditure grew from KM 2.67 billion to KM 4.45 billion, largely driven by public funding. Private investment remains low, but demand for faster, higher-quality care continues to rise—creating fertile ground for early investors like Lumio Capital and ASA Group.

Industry experts across Central and Eastern Europe have echoed similar optimism, noting the region’s accelerating healthcare growth and rising patient acceptance of private care.

ASA Medical Group’s launch positions the ASA family as a driving force in transforming Bosnia’s healthcare landscape, combining operational excellence with long-term investment vision.
